Speed Tests
This was a very early precursor to the Practice Piano, before I generalized
the tone production and painted a piano around it and allowed a MIDI keyboard to drive it, etc.
I still find it useful, and mildly amusing how poorly I do on it.
A440 with 3rd partial present at 1320hz:
This is useful if you like to use the method Rick Butler espouses for tuning A4.
Assuming the inharmonicity of your
A4 string is going to cause its 3rd partial to be about 1323hz when its fundamental is 440hz,
you'll then hear 3bps against this tone in the E6 area when your A4 is at 440hz.
You will get the same beating with just a pure 440hz sine wave, but
the beating is a lot clearer if we just explicitly add in the 1320 to the tone. Plus, it's just a tone
source, so it seems to me it should be OK to use on the RPT exam. (Don't take my word on that, though,
since I have nothing to do with administering RPT exams). Download the tone to your phone so it can be
used even if you're in an area of no data coverage and can't reach this site.
